Addiction recovery is not easy, nor does it result in a cuddly shower of puppies and rainbows. At least not right away. Maybe not ever.  The ending is optimistic in the sense that Blue did not commit suicide or die from alcohol poisoning.  Blue’s story is essentially my story – and my story is dull.  I didn’t go to rehab or end up in jail and my life did not change for the better right when I got sober.  And yes, things got redundant towards the end.  That’s alcoholism.
